Video Submissions & Feedback

Video submissions are the core of FormLab. This guide covers uploading videos, tracking their status, and watching your coach's recorded video feedback.

Uploading a Video

To submit a video for review:

  1. Go to your Subscriptions page
  2. Find the subscription you want to use and click Upload Video
  3. If you have multiple subscriptions, select which coach/subscription to submit to
  4. Add a descriptive title for your video (e.g., "Form check from practice - Feb 2024")
  5. Optionally add notes for your coach about what you want feedback on
  6. Select your video file from your device
  7. Click submit

Your video will immediately appear in your subscription's video list with a "Submitted" status. Your coach will be notified and will review it in the order it was received.

Upload limits: Each subscription tier has a monthly video review limit. Check your subscription page to see how many reviews you have remaining this billing period.

Video Status

Each video moves through three statuses:

Submitted

Your video has been received and is waiting for your coach to start reviewing it. Coaches typically review videos in the order they're received (FIFO - first in, first out).

In Review

Your coach has started working on your feedback. This typically takes 24-48 hours depending on your coach's schedule.

Completed

Your coach has recorded video feedback. Click on the video to watch their analysis alongside your original submission.

Watching Your Coach's Feedback

When your video status changes to Completed, your coach has recorded video feedback for you:

  • Click on the completed video to open the feedback view
  • You'll see your original video alongside your coach's recorded analysis
  • Your coach narrates what they see, stepping through your form to highlight key points
  • Watch the feedback as many times as you like to absorb the coaching

Replay anytime: Your coach records a video walkthrough of your submission. It's like having a one-on-one coaching session you can replay anytime.

Video Playback Controls

The video player gives you precise control over playback so you can analyze your form frame by frame:

  • Seek bar: Drag the seek bar to jump to any point in the video
  • Mouse wheel / scroll: Scroll up or down over the video to scrub forward or backward in fine increments (0.1 seconds per tick)
  • Surface drag: Click and drag directly on the video surface to scrub through the video at a fixed rate — consistent feel regardless of video length
  • Touch controls (mobile): Swipe on the video to scrub on phones and tablets
  • Frame stepping: Use comma (,) to step back one frame and period (.) to step forward one frame for precise moment analysis

Tip: These controls work on both your original submission and your coach's feedback video. Use frame stepping to pause on the exact moment your coach is analyzing.

Downloading Feedback Videos

You can download your coach's feedback video to watch offline or save for future reference:

  • Open any completed video with feedback
  • Look for the download button on the feedback video player
  • The download link is available for a limited time after the review is completed

Note: Download links expire after a period of time. Save your coach's feedback promptly if you want to keep it long-term.

Side-by-Side Comparison

When your coach records feedback, they may use side-by-side comparison to show a previous submission next to your current one:

  • This helps you see your progress over time — your coach can compare your old form with your new form
  • Both videos can play in sync so you see the same moment from both submissions simultaneously
  • Your coach may annotate (draw on) either video to highlight specific differences between your old and new form

Tip: Side-by-side comparison is most powerful when you use the same camera angle and distance each time you submit. This lets your coach directly compare identical moments in your form evolution.

Tips for Great Submissions

Get the most value from your video reviews by following these filming guidelines:

  • Good lighting: Film outdoors during the day or in a well-lit indoor facility. Avoid backlighting that makes you a silhouette
  • Stable camera: Use a tripod or prop your phone/camera on something stable. Shaky footage makes it hard to analyze form
  • Full motion: Capture your entire movement from setup to follow-through. Don't start recording too late or stop too early
  • Appropriate distance: Position the camera so your entire body is visible throughout the movement, with a little extra space on all sides
  • Pick the best angle: Choose the angle that best shows the motion you want feedback on — usually a side view (side-on to the movement) for most techniques
  • Include context: In the notes, mention what you're working on or what issues you're experiencing ("My timing feels rushed" or "I feel off-balance in my follow-through")
  • Representative attempts: Submit videos that represent your typical form, not just your best or worst attempts

Quality matters: The better your video quality and angles, the more specific and helpful your coach's feedback can be. It's worth spending a few extra minutes on your filming setup.
